I’m looking to buy a fireproof gun safe…?
If I buy one with a digital keypad and the pad gets damaged (say someone tries to break into it) how do you get the safe open? I guess the same could be asked for a tumbler style safe. Is this something the manufacturer would have to repair? A local locksmith?
It depends on how badly they damage it. The standard S&G keypad used on gun safes just connects to a wire that goes through a hole and connects to the electronics inside the safe. If it’s ripped off, but the wire is still accessible, your locksmith can probably put another keypad on and get things going again. If that wire is gone, then your locksmith may have to drill the safe.
The S&G tumbler lock (dial combination) also has the tumblers inside the safe, so, if the dial is ripped off, but it’s axle is still usable, it may be possible to put another dial on it. If not, again, your locksmith will have to drill.
I’m told, by my locksmith, that they can repair the drill hole so you’ll hardly know it was there.

The S&G dial combination locks are not maintenance free. They should be serviced by a locksmith every two or three years to insure reliable functioning.
Only an incredibly stupid burglar will try to pry the dial or keypad off. When my home was broken into some years ago, the burglars made a mess and took about $3000 worth of stuff — some of it incomprehensibly valueless. They didn’t even touch the gun safe. Even those idiots realized they’d never get into it with the skills and tools they had (or, rather, didn’t have). Anyone who has the skills to break into my gun safe has better things to do than break into my house.
