How can an alarmed door (burglar alarm component) be defeated?

To be clear, I am a writer, not a burglar. I’m writing a story, and I’ve run into a situation where my character needs to defeat a burglar alarm to get into a victim’s home. I don’t need a lot of detail about how to defeat the alarm, but I need to get him in through an alarmed door or window and I need to figure out how he can defeat the infrared sensor inside the house.

Most contacts are magnetic with a magnet on the door or window. Placing a strong magnet in JUST the right spot would keep the magnetic contact from tripping. Motion
Motion infrared detectors are passive. They look for changes in infrared (heat). Once the temperature is high enough, their effectiveness goes WAY down. At 100 degrees they are virtually worthless. Make it a hot day with no AC.
